The Cooperative
Initially, Coopasv was known as Unipasv, an entity founded on June 15, 2000, when a group of small farmers in Santana da Vargem (MG) came together to acquire Pronaf, as they could evaluate each other in groups, looking for product quality.
In 2002, the cooperative suffered a financial setback and, to prevent the entity from becoming extinct, a new board was elected, this time composed of Mr. Francisco Alves de Assis in the Presidency, Mr. Gilmar Donizete Oliveira as vice president, Mr. Neylon Peret Penha as secretary and Mr. Wilson Pedroso de Lima remained in the treasury.
In 2003, Fair Trade was presented to the Entity through a collaborator, Vanusia Nogueira, who, when participating in a coffee fair in the United States (SCAA), had her first contact with Fair Trade certification. Thus, the idea reached Brazil and Unipasv.
After the execution of the entire bureaucratic process, Unipasv achieved Fair Trade certification, becoming the second entity in Brazil to obtain this seal, adding a differential in the process of marketing smallholder coffee and an important opportunity for fairer prices.
In 2012, Unipasv associates transformed the entity into a cooperative, to offer a wider range of sales possibilities to all those involved. Thus, the Santana da Vargem Small Farmers Cooperative (Coopasv) was born.
Today Coopasv is a Fair Trade Cooperative, with coffees produced by family farming, with excellent quality, crops located between 900 and 1340 meters in altitude and around 100 associates between the municipalities of Santana da Vargem, Três Pontas, Boa Esperança, Coqueiral , Varginha, Elói Mendes, Carmo da Cachoeira, Ilicínea, Nepomuceno and São Gonçalo do Sapucaí.
