XIII Coopasv Fairtrade Coffee Quality Contest

The contest had a 23-year-old winner from the city of Ilicínea/MG.

Last Saturday (October 16th 2021) the XIII Fairtrade Coffee Quality Contest took place at Coopasv. The contest, in its 13th edition, had 12 competing samples and 7 participating judges. The traditional event was attended by judges Henrique Lamaita, Thacio Scalioni (SAAG), Jean Pierre (Olam), Vanius Almeida (Capebe), Gabriel Barbara (Volcafé), João Jarduli (CaféBras) and Gilmar Reis Cabral as head judge.

In 2008 the first edition of the Coopasv contest took place, and since then the cooperative has been awarding coffees and bringing quality to the world. In this year of 2021, the champion coffee was that of the producer Gabriel Lemos Ferreira, 23 years old, from the city of Ilicínea/MG. He has been cooperating for 1 year and began his career in coffee farming when he was just 15 years old. Inheriting the learning of traditional family farming, Gabriel is the son of Eliane Vieira and João Batista, and has two brothers Nubya and Marcos Vinicius.

Gabriel Lemos says that he has always been passionate about the field. He says that a cooperative helps a lot in the cooperative’s life, as it helps in marketing, in addition to technical assistance and the Fairtrade seal, influencing the organization and responsibility within the property.

Coopasv has always valued the quality of its coffees and the principles of family farming. The Fairtrade label has had great achievements within the cooperative and on members’ properties.

“I am very happy and proud of this achievement. I thank Coopasv for the partnership and I hope that in 2022 we can be together again producing specialty coffees.” Highlighted Gabriel, winner of the XIII Coopasv Fairtrade Coffee Quality Contest.
