Successful harvest

Understand more about the coffee cycle.

The coffee tree has a phenological cycle, which is divided into six distinct phases, two of which are vegetative:

  • Vegetation and formation of leaf buds;
  • Induction and maturation of floral and four reproductive buds;
  • Coffee flowering, “chumbinho” and fruit expansion;
  • Graining of the fruits;
  • Fruit ripening;
  • Rest and senescence of the tertiary and quaternary branches.

In all these phases, the plant needs certain care to ensure good production and quality coffee. Right now we are in the maturation phase of the grains, very close to harvest. A very important phase, as harvesting the coffee before its time harms the quality of production, even if the grower has adopted correct practices throughout the production process.

To achieve quality coffee, it is necessary to respect its maturation, the ideal is to start harvesting when there are only 15% of green beans in the plants.

When removed from the plant, the ripening process is permanently interrupted, nutrients such as Potassium and Copper help throughout the development of the crop, but their use in the filling and maturation phase of the grains increases the plant’s vigor, reduces the empty grains, increases the uniformity of cherries, in addition to minimizing biological stress and bacterial diseases. All this due to the balance in the assimilated photo translocation. Knowing this, each process has its great share of importance, therefore, it is essential to pay attention in each cycle for better development so that the harvest is very successful.
